I love your comments Little Bet. I hope that by sharing my take on this does not offend you. Please let me know what you think of my experiences. The President is the Chief Executive and is supposed to direct foreign policy. When he meets with leaders of countries who have human rights violations and tells the world how much we have in common I am concerned. When he shuns one of our greatest Allies I worry. This latest poisoning may even be a result of taking a nod from Trump that he plans on dismantling ALL of Obama's policies. You can't say in one instance you are going to destroy every policy he had and then turn around and and blame Obama for the result of a country disregarding Obama's policies.
The Border problem is complex. My family has worked for the Mexican embassy for years as early as 1957. My father used to help escort people back to Mexico from Texas. I taught children ages 5-13 who escaped horrendous circumstances to come here. Many of them had no choice to come here. Their parents brought them here, painted, cleaned and even built people's homes so their child would have an education. I watched many grow up and go to college and become social workers, cooks, teachers, scientists, restaurant owners, and more. The legal ones paid into the system, and so did the illegal ones. They both paid property tax, income tax, and sales tax and worked hard. The difference is the illegal ones will never get a social security check when they age even though they paid into our system. I say that is a great deal for us. These children who are now adults struggle with the thought of having to go home to a country they have never known. They were indoctrinated in patriotism for the USA waved the American flag, and sang America the Beautiful, and the Star Spangled Banner with the curriculum provided in schools. They smiled with joy. And now some cry with hurt and anger.
The holding areas where families are separated has been declared a human rights violation. ICE Detention Centers got heat from Human Rights Watch. I don't see Trump as a kinder gentler president. He is going to expand the private prison system and make millions from detaining people in private prisons that have no governmental regulation. If you are for imprisonment, and profit making through imprisonment. He is your man. All kinds of prison contractors are licking their chops at getting more prisons up and running. Let's face it they are a cash cow. False imprisonment is against the constitution. But this is the ideal opportunity for venture capitalists. Illegal immigrants have no rights.
Human Rights Watch, a worldwide human rights organization, is examining the living conditions for mothers and children in ICE Detention Centers after 25 mothers of detained immigrant families shared their family trauma, depression and suicidal thoughts to the organization.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is the government ran organization that is responsible for the immigration detention centers that are under investigation. Several accounts of human rights violations have been reported in the past few years as immigration has been a hot topic.
U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee in California has released a 22-page ruling accusing the Obama Administrations current family migrant outlines a violation of how migrant children are supposed to be detained. The tentative ruling states that it is inappropriate to hold a child and an accompanying parent, unless there is a flight and/or safety risk.
